Love Isn’t a Contract—It’s a Moment, I think.

January 3, 2025

Love is one of those emotions we all recognize but rarely take the time to truly understand. In this video I’m sharing, someone offers an insightful definition of what it means to be “in love,” and it makes total sense. It challenges many of the ideas we’ve been conditioned to believe about love—and that’s what makes it so refreshing.

Based on my own reflections and what my therapist has shared with me in the past, I think love is an emotion—something we feel in the moment. But somewhere along the way, society added layers of expectations to it. We hear “I love you” and think it’s a lifelong promise or a declaration that this person is now “ours.” Saying it can even be scary because we worry about how the other person might interpret it—what expectations it might carry.

And that’s where human complexity gets tangled with love. We consume so much content telling us what love should look like, how it should feel, or how it’s meant to last forever. But what if love is simply an expression of what you feel right now? No guarantees. No conditions. Just honesty in its purest form.

For me, that idea makes love feel lighter and more authentic—less like a contract and more like a moment of connection. What do you think?

Watch the video here and let me know your thoughts.
