The Empty Shell

If you’ve ever been affected by a narcissist, you know the anger they can stir in you. But here’s something to consider—anger is exactly what they want. It fuels their need for control, their craving for a reaction. So instead of giving them what they seek, try looking at them through a different lens.

Picture them as a wounded child, terrified of being seen for who they truly are. Their insecurities run so deep that instead of confronting them, they shapeshift—adopting the mindset of whoever they’re with, mirroring their surroundings until it’s time to move on. But who are they, really? Even they don’t know. To them, self-reflection is a black hole—too deep, too dark, too dangerous.

And that’s the tragedy. Imagine living every day trying to be “enough” but never feeling it. Constantly calculating, anticipating, molding yourself to fit an image that isn’t real. That’s the exhausting reality of a narcissist.

So the next time their behavior gets to you, remind yourself: you are whole. You don’t have to play that game. They are the ones lost in an illusion, while you—wounds and all—get to be real. And that is something they may never have.
