Devolution of Power

March 11, 2025

Loretta’s (Banksy’s) latest piece in Soho is a stark visual commentary on evolution—or rather, its reversal. The artwork, depicting the familiar “ascent of man” sequence but halting at a suited figure with a distinct resemblance to a certain political leader, forces us to ask: Have we really progressed?

In a world where power is often wielded through ignorance, division, and regressive ideals, this piece suggests we may be walking backward rather than forward. Evolution is more than physical change—it’s intellectual, moral, and social. If we don’t push for progress, we risk undoing centuries of advancement.

Are we evolving, or are we merely dressed in modernity while clinging to primitive instincts?
