From “Why Me?” to “What’s This Teaching Me?”

April 1, 2025

Some truths can be read and intellectually understood, but their depth only hits when life gives you the experience to truly feel them. The image above says it all: Earth is a sacred school, and every joy or pain is a lesson. But we don’t always live with that awareness.

Most of the time, we’re not really present. We’re checking boxes, hitting targets, thinking about the next thing. Operating unconsciously. We might see quotes like this and nod, but embodying their truth? That’s a different journey.

Life, more than any classroom, is the ultimate teacher. Yes, education teaches us to be literate, to think critically, and approach things with an open mind—but it doesn’t teach us everything. So much of wisdom is in what’s unsaid, in what we observe, in the stillness between experiences. And often, we don’t even recognize the lesson in the moment. We’re just surviving the pain, riding the emotional wave.

But over time, when we slow down, when we begin to open up, when we are present, we start to shift. The question becomes less about “Why is this happening to me?” and more about “What is this teaching me?” Even if we don’t fully understand it yet, the willingness to ask the question is a sign we’re evolving.

It’s a process. A deep one. But just having the framework can offer a kind of freedom. A sense of trust that even in chaos, there’s meaning unfolding.

It’s not easy. But it’s powerful.
