One of my biggest triggers is watching people consume information without thinking about it.
They read something.
They watch something.
AI gives them an answer.
And that’s it. It becomes truth.
It irritates the shit out of me.
And I’ve asked myself why it bothers me so much.
Maybe because I genuinely wonder how different the world would look if more of us were willing to pause for a few seconds and ask:
How did you come to that conclusion?
Not whether it resonates with you. Something can resonate because it touches a wound, confirms a belief, validates an experience, or tells you exactly what you already wanted to hear.
That doesn’t make it true.
It doesn’t necessarily make it false either.
It makes it something worth questioning.
And AI has made this worse.
People are using AI like an all-knowing search box. Ask question. Receive answer. Copy. Paste. Done.
But did you ask where the information came from? Did you look at the source? Did the AI actually know, or did it make a very convincing inference? Could it be hallucinating? What assumptions were buried inside the answer?
AI can produce an incredibly confident sentence that is still wrong.
Confidence is not evidence.
The same applies to television, social media, podcasts, articles, politicians, influencers, experts, and yes, even people we trust.
We constantly say every human being is unique. We literally use DNA to distinguish one human from another.
Yet somehow we behave as though our minds should all process the world identically.
They don’t.
Everything reaches us through filters: our experiences, fears, wounds, culture, education, relationships, biases and memories.
So sometimes the most important thing you can do is mentally step outside yourself and look back in.
Why did that resonate with me?
What am I assuming?
What evidence supports it?
What would make me change my mind?
Where did this information actually come from?
I don’t expect everyone to reach the same conclusions. In fact, I hope we don’t.
I just wish more people would think their way to their conclusions instead of consuming their way to them.
Because information has never been easier to obtain.
AI is only going to make that easier.
The increasingly scarce skill is knowing when to stop consuming and start questioning.
And fuck, I wish more humans would just do that.
Don’t outsource your thinking just because something else can produce an answer.
