Reclaiming Your Power

July 10, 2024

In our pursuit of acceptance and validation, we often lose sight of our authenticity. The societal pressure to conform to certain expectations can lead us to give away too much power to others, allowing their perceptions and validations to dictate our sense of self-worth. It’s a common struggle, one that many of us might go through for decades without even realizing.

The quote, “To reclaim your authenticity you have to become okay with being seen as ‘too much’, ‘too big’, or ‘too intense’ to some people,” captures this idea perfectly. It emphasizes the importance of embracing our true selves, even if it means being misunderstood or misperceived by others. When we become comfortable with these misperceptions, we show a deeper commitment to listening to our hearts rather than conforming to what others want us to be.

This struggle is particularly evident in relationships where there is an imbalance of personalities, such as the dynamic between a narcissist and an empath. In such situations, one person often gives away their power, trying to fit into the expectations of the other. This leads to a cycle of validation-seeking and loss of self.

True self-love and acceptance come from understanding and acknowledging our unhealed wounds. By being aware of these wounds, we can build confidence in owning who we are, rather than letting others’ perceptions dictate our worth. It’s a journey of connecting with ourselves, accepting our flaws, and loving our true selves.

Many of us, whether aware or not, grapple with this issue. We crave inclusion and acceptance, but it’s crucial to first find these within ourselves. By doing so, we can positively influence our interactions with others, creating a more genuine and fulfilling life.

In the end, reclaiming our authenticity is about embracing our true selves, even if it means standing out or being perceived differently. It’s about owning our power, not fitting into someone else’s box, and living a life true to our hearts.
