We all know the fire extinguisher—encased in glass, hanging on a wall, waiting for a moment of crisis. We don’t think about it daily, but when a fire breaks out, we know it’s there. We trust that it can help us navigate the flames.
What if we thought about ourselves the same way? When we feel lost, anxious, or angry, the key to understanding ourselves isn’t missing—it’s within us, just deeply encased. Therapy, introspection, and awareness serve as the tools that help us break the glass and access it.
Now, zoom out. Look at the state of our country, the deep divisions, the choices people make—like voting for a leader who thrives on fear and isolation. It’s easy to ask, How could they believe that? How could they not see? But layer down, and you’ll find wounds speaking. A fear of being left behind. A narrative of loss. A belief that no one else is listening.
Trump didn’t create those wounds. He spoke to them. And people responded.
So, what now? Blame won’t change anything. The real work—the only work that truly shifts the world—starts within. What narratives have we inherited without questioning? What fires burn inside us, shaping how we see the world?
Maybe it’s time to break the glass.
