The Fortress Within

May 24, 2024

In shadows long, where silence roams,
We seek the strength to call our own,
Not in the eyes of those we love,
But in the heart’s deep, quiet grove.

To find a place where peace resides,
Beyond the storm, where fear subsides,
A sanctuary built by hands
Of hope and dreams and inner lands.

For giving others power grand,
To hold our joy, to shape our stand,
Is to bestow a heavy weight,
A burden not theirs to create.

No soul but ours can truly guard
The tender flame, the spirit’s bard,
And trusting hearts, we often find,
Can lead to wounds of cruel kind.

But in ourselves, a fortress strong,
Where echoes form a lifelong song,
There lies the calm, the gentle grace,
The safest, most enduring place.

With walls of will and doors of peace,
A haven where our thoughts can cease,
To spiral out in pain or dread,
To rest in strength, to forge ahead.

So let us build this sacred space,
With mindful bricks and boundless grace,
For in our depths, we’ll always see,
The strength and safety to be free.

No need for others to defend
The happiness we must transcend,
For in the quiet of our mind,
The truest refuge we shall find.
