The Hunt for Love: Are We Looking in the Wrong Place?

March 13, 2025

We chase love like it’s a prize, a destination, a missing piece that someone else holds. We romanticize the hunt, believing that love exists outside of us—if only we could find the right person to give it to us. But what if the love we’re searching for isn’t something to be found, but something to be built within?

Don Miguel Ruiz’s words cut through the illusion: we seek love from those who are just as lost as we are. We ask for what they don’t even have for themselves. And when they can’t give it, we feel empty, disappointed, and even more desperate in the search.

The truth is, love starts from within. Without self-love, the words “I love you” are just that—words. But the noise of the world makes it hard to hear ourselves. The chaos, the distractions, the endless scrolling—it all drowns out the one voice that truly matters.

Spending time alone is terrifying because it forces us to face what we’ve been avoiding. But in that stillness lies the answer. And in the answer lies truth.

Facing the truth isn’t easy. It’s messy. It’s uncomfortable. But it’s also the only way through. And on the other side? A different kind of love. A different kind of freedom. The kind that doesn’t come from clinging or chasing, but from letting go.
