To Koa and Kai: My Angels

January 11, 2025

This beautiful portrait of Koa and Kai was a Christmas gift, but their presence in my life has been a gift far beyond anything material. Though they are not mine, as their “auntie and godmother” they’ve opened my heart in a way I never expected. They’ve shown me a love so pure, it’s the closest I can imagine to the feeling of being a parent.

Their unconditional love has made me more aware of the beauty and vulnerability of animals everywhere. It breaks my heart to think about the hopelessness and helplessness so many animals must feel when treated poorly by humans. I cannot understand how anyone could harm these angels when all they ask is to love and be loved in return.

Koa and Kai have brought me an indescribable joy and gratitude. Their playful spirits and boundless affection remind me every day of the power of love and connection. They’ve made me more compassionate, not just towards them but to all animals. I wish more people could see what I see in them—pure, unconditional love—and treat all creatures with the respect they deserve.

This post is dedicated to Koa and Kai, two little angels who have forever changed my heart. May we all learn to see the angels around us, especially the ones with fur and wagging tails.
