Why I’m Not Engaging in Discussions About the New Administration

January 23, 2025

I’ve been quiet about the new administration—not because I don’t have thoughts, but because I’ve chosen not to engage. After doing the work to understand narcissism as part of my healing journey, I’ve reached a point where I no longer feel the need to react. That process taught me one crucial truth: expectations lead to disappointment, especially when dealing with individuals or groups who operate from a place of unhealed wounds.

Narcissism is more than just a personality disorder—it’s a way of responding to the world, rooted in deep insecurity. Once I understood this, I stopped expecting consistency, empathy, or accountability from people who feel threatened or unsafe. That understanding brought me peace. It made me realize that I don’t have to let the actions of a single person—or an entire administration—define my emotional state or my outlook on life.

The next four years will unfold as they will, and nothing will surprise me. That’s not apathy—it’s detachment. By choosing to disengage, I’m protecting my energy and focusing on things within my control. If you’re struggling with the current climate, I encourage you to dig deeper. Read, learn, and seek to understand what drives the behaviors that frustrate or frighten you. It’s not just about politics; it’s about understanding the wounded children trapped in adult bodies, playing out their pain on a public stage.

For me, this perspective has been liberating. The world may be chaotic, but I’ve chosen not to let it dictate my inner peace. If you’re willing to look beyond the surface, you might just find a similar sense of freedom.
