This is a man who oversaw the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein files while serving as deputy attorney general, files that survivors say were mishandled, delayed, and released with their private information exposed. He is the man Trump wants in the top law enforcement job in the country after firing the last one over this exact issue.
If you are a normal human being and this gets confirmed, every single one of us in this country is implicit. Not the politicians. Not the donors. All of us.
Here is why I say implicit. We didn’t question. We consumed what we thought was democratic and called it a day. We gave away our trust. We gave away our agency. We let neighbors, coworkers, people we love, believe it was fine to vote for this. We let the shenanigans become normal because normal was easier than the fight.
If you have a daughter, sit with that for a minute. Introspect. Actually sit with it. You cannot walk around acting righteous, posting about your values, raising your kids to speak up, if you handed your vote to the man who buried this. That contradiction doesn’t resolve itself. You either carry it or you change something.
I don’t have more words than that. I think I’ll need them soon enough.
